COURT: Lam Yan-lun, it is a terrible thing that you did, I am
sure that you knew you were doing wrong, but I am satisfied, and
I take it into account, that it was done by a man who is seriously
mentally ill.
Despite what you may think, you are ill and you need medical help. The fact that you were aware of what you were doing does not preclude me from making a hospital order in respect of you.
After reading the psychiatric reports I have on you, two from psychiatrists in private practice and two from government psychiatrists, I have decided that I shall deal with your case by making a hospital order.
Therefore, I am making a hospital order under section 45(1) of the Mental Health Ordinance in respect of you. You will be detained in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for a period of 12 months and undergo medical treatment there.
I am satisfied that arrangements have been made for your immediate reception to the Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre and I see no need to order that the proviso to section 47(2) of the Mental Health Ordinance should not apply.
